Bitwise, a leading crypto asset manager, has submitted a formal application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a NEAR Protocol exchange-traded fund. The proposed Bitwise NEAR ETF, slated for a potential May 2025 launch, would offer traditional investors exposure to the Layer-1 blockchain’s native token through conventional brokerage accounts.

The filing marks a significant step in bridging decentralized finance with mainstream markets. By eliminating the technical barriers of direct cryptocurrency ownership, the fund could attract institutional capital to NEAR’s ecosystem. Bitwise’s San Francisco-based investment arm is listed as the sponsor for this pioneering financial product.
